A Tale of Two Trees
Last year, our journey through “The Tale of Two Trees” was a transformative experience that connected the Garden of Eden with Calvary, reminding us of God’s redemptive plan for humanity.
Here are a few key takeaways from the sermon:
Let’s carry the message of hope and renewal with us throughout this week and beyond. May we continue to be inspired by the sacrifices made and the lives renewed through the power of Jesus’ resurrection.
Begin Bible Reading Plan and Devotional
Day 1: The Fall and the Need for Redemption
Bible Reading: Genesis 2:15-17; Genesis 3:1-6
Devotional: In the serene Garden of Eden, God placed the first man and woman with a simple command—enjoy the bounties of paradise, but do not eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Despite the freedom they had, Adam and Eve’s choice to eat from this forbidden tree represents humanity’s inclination toward disobedience and the need for redemption. Reflect on your own choices and consider the ways in which you might seek your own path over God’s guidance. How does recognizing your need for redemption draw you closer to God?
Reflection Question: In what ways have you experienced the consequences of your own choices that were contrary to God’s will? How can you turn back towards God’s redemptive plan for your life?
Day 2: The Tree of Knowledge and Free Will
Bible Reading: Genesis 2:15-17; Genesis 3:6-7
Devotional: Today, we delve deeper into the significance of free will as demonstrated in the Garden of Eden. The Tree of Knowledge provided Adam and Eve with a choice—obedience to God or their own desires. The decision to partake of the forbidden fruit led to a spiritual death, a separation from God. Contemplate the gift of free will and how it is both a profound responsibility and a pivotal element of God’s redemptive plan.
Reflection Question: How do you exercise your free will in a way that honors God? What steps can you take to align your choices more closely with God’s will for your life?
Day 3: The Cross – A Symbol of Redemption
Bible Reading: Matthew 27:32-44
Devotional: The wooden cross, an instrument of death, became the means through which life and salvation were offered to all. As we read about Jesus’ crucifixion, consider how God used what was meant for harm to accomplish the greatest good. Reflect on the depth of Jesus’ sacrifice and the transformative power it has to bridge the gap between our human failings and divine forgiveness.
Reflection Question: How does the story of Jesus’ crucifixion challenge you to find hope in seemingly hopeless situations? How can the symbol of the cross encourage you in your walk with God?
Day 4: Resurrection Power
Bible Reading: Matthew 27:45-54; Matthew 28:1-10
Devotional: In the darkest hour, the earth trembled as the Son of God breathed His last, only to conquer death with His resurrection. The resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us, offering new life and hope. As we read about the empty tomb and the risen Lord, let the reality of the resurrection inspire awe and wonder in your heart. Let it also remind you of the power that is at work within you as a believer.
Reflection Question: What does the resurrection of Jesus mean to you personally? How can you live in the light of the resurrection power each day?
Day 5: Living in Forgiveness and Revival
Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:13-14
Devotional: Our final reflection turns to the themes of forgiveness and revival. Through Christ’s sacrifice, we have been forgiven and transferred from the domain of darkness into the kingdom of light. This truth should lead us to a life marked by gratitude, strength, and deliverance. Consider how you can embrace forgiveness, both receiving it and extending it to others, as a key aspect of your daily walk with God. Let this understanding spark a personal revival in your heart, family, and community.
Reflection Question: How will you practice forgiveness in your own life as a testament to the grace you have received? What are some tangible ways you can participate in the revival of your faith community?

Have you ever seen a bumper sticker that asks, "Are you following Jesus this close?" I saw it again the other day (in a parking lot!) It's a humorous way to comment on tailgating, but it also raises a spiritual question: How closely are we really following Jesus in our daily lives?
Read MoreIn our walk with God, it's easy to forget how far we've come and the countless ways He has blessed us. We often fall into the trap of asking, "What have you done for me lately, God?" - forgetting the answered prayers, the healing, the provision, and the protection that have brought us to where we are today. This tendency to forget is deeply human, which is why we're called to intentionally remember.
